Kerry! You are the best! Thank you for granting the second interview. When we last spoke you were working on Tellurian. The film is backed by an outstanding, award-winning film company and a star cast. We know you must be thrilled to see this film release soon! How has the experience been?

Absolutely incredible. The film is backed with an award-winning team and company which includes Director, Graeme Carr and Cinematographer, Dean Pearson who, in 2016 won the prestigious Gold Remi Award at the 49th Annual WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival in cinematography for The Clearing (also by IronStar Films) – Steven Speilberg took home that very same award for his short film, Amblin in 1972. It is by far one of the best set’s and crew I have ever worked with on film – the cast, which includes Craig McGinlay (King Arthur, Knightfall), are like one big family – everyone believes in the project and vision – and we are so close to completion! I have absolutely loved my experience in my role as leading resistance fighter, ‘Breaker’ and I cannot wait to get this one out there.

You have been keeping busy. Not only are your working on a few films in the independent realm, you recently attended the Scottish Parliament for a special event focused on ‘Filmmaking in Scotland. Tell us more.

Yes, I was invited, along with Fellowship Film to the Scottish parliament building in Edinburgh, based on my leading role in the Scottish fantasy feature, The Gaelic King (2017). It was an honor and a privilege to be in attendance; where the crew discussed the international success of the film and moving forward in the Scottish Filmmaking Industry. Amazing to see the film reach that platform in our home country.

Also, you just completed filming on the Scottish 70s drama, Schemers, directed by Kyle Titterton, in which you star as a London music producer named Charlie. It’s based on true events. Tell us what you can.

The story follows the lives and exploits of a trio of lads who try and fail at various ‘schemes’ in 1979 Dundee, Scotland – culminating in them putting on a hugely ambitious Iron Maiden gig at the Caird Hall, Dundee…yes, this actually happened! To my knowledge, it is the first feature film to be shot entirely in Dundee and is already making waves in the Independent sector. My character appears alongside fellow cast member Alex Reece, who manages the band, Iron Maiden, in the film. At one point during the concert scene, we turned to one another and said, “I cannot believe we actually get paid for this”. Rock on!

What should the audience expect?

A lot of mischievous! The story has a lot of comedy and heart – and revisits a bygone era. It will evoke a feeling of nostalgia, with larger-than-life characters and setting. In a similar fashion to Trainspotting, it is about wanting from life – it has romance, it has failure, it has gangster’s and ultimately, hope. It will certainly be a hit among us Scot’s and will offer the rest of the world the very best of our Scottish humor!

You also take an active role in your craft. You’re a member of BAFTA Scotland and attended the BAFTA Scotland Awards 2017 with some of the cast members from ‘Tellurian’. How important is it to represent what you do?

Very. I am the only one in my family to pursue an acting career and I aim to reach every platform I can, although my true love is being onset. I have been fortunate enough so far as to work with some of the very best up-and-coming talents Scotland has to offer, and to move in and around Britain to where and when the jobs arise. My friend and co-star, Elanor Miller have the same outlook; to help and support as much as you can. Loyalty means everything to me.

The Code PosterThis month you’re filming a WW2 drama called The Code from award-winning filmmaker, Patrick Ryder. Filming takes place in London. You have a lead role. You’re playing Elizabeth. Tell us more.

I had an absolutely incredible time and experience onset of WW2 drama, ‘The Code’ – wonderful cast, crew, and talent, which included the legendary Richard Oakes on Cinematography and award-winning Director, Patrick Ryder. I was a great admirer of Patrick’s work long before filming began and I am so grateful to him for casting me in the role of Elizabeth, written by the fantastic Cheryl Neve. I look forward to collaborating on future projects together.

There have been several war dramas produced. This is a good thing because it’s a part of global history. What are your thoughts on this?

Absolutely. Following recent releases such as Christopher Nolan’s, Dunkirk, it has shown that this is a period in history that audience members continually wish to see explored, on-screen. It was a dark time in human history and changed the world, as we know it. It showed the darker shade of humanity but also the lengths people are willing to go, to keep hope alive – and these are the themes ultimately explored in The Code.

What else can you tell us about the film, such as the wardrobe to make the film authentic?

The film primarily focuses on three soldiers, played by the fantastic Robert Dukes, Kevin Leslie & Jacob Ernie Anderton and the people that they have left behind, during the war. It was a phenomenal cast to work with and I was in complete awe of the costume design and setting. The story was treated with such research and sensitivity and is very heartfelt. The promotional material so far released for the piece is of such a high standard and truly reflects the finished film. It is sure to strike a chord with audiences. The whole cast & crew came away from the project believing and knowing that we had been a part of something very special.

Do you have any other upcoming projects that we haven’t mentioned?

So far, it has been a great start to 2018, with releases due for later on in the year, events upcoming and filming for Tellurian, currently ongoing. There are always projects in the pipeline – but until I sign on the dotted line, I’m afraid I’m sworn to secrecy!

Complete this sentence, if I had an opportunity to do anything I want, I would do ___________.

I love what I do. I love the places it takes me, the experiences it awards me and the incredible people it brings into my life. I continue to learn from the craft and it continues to surprise me. I am a hard worker and I am prepared for the long journey ahead.
