Hi, Shavonda! Thank you for granting the interview. What inspired you to become a poet?

When my first-grade teacher read of Maya Angelou poems titled Phenomenal Woman during a reading session.

What inspires your creativity?

My love for music and nature.

You’re noted as having incredible stage energy. What are the five things you must have with you on stage?

A microphone, music, ideas. chair and ambition.

Your poetry reflects life. Does it motivate you?

Yes, it does very much.

Tell us how following your dreams and intuition has paid off.

I had a quite a few people tell me that my work has inspired them in many ways by sharing my emotional experiences and relatable thoughts in my life.

Your uniqueness and talent are evident. Tell us about the process of composing a poem.

I put pen to paper when my heart speaks to me directly.

What has been the best part of working in the industry?

Inspiring others.

What has been your best poem and why?

God’s Coloring Picture

I entered a poetry competition a few months ago with this poem and it won Most Creative Award. It was the Poetry Nation Competition. Thanks so much.

Do you have any upcoming projects that you would like to share?

Yes, actually I got three poetry books coming out soon titled Love Memories In The Rain, Moving Phrases into Inspirations and Naked Reflections Vol 1. Be looking out for it soon.

What advice would you give to someone, who is aspiring to enter the entertainment industry?

Be yourself and love what you do.
