After an extensive theatrical rollout, J. Horton’s crime thriller-meets-apocalyptic showdown, A Hard Place, is now available to rent or own across North America via Digital VOD platforms, including Apple TV and Prime Video.
The journey for A Hard Place began on January 12 with a roadshow kickoff at Englewood Cinema, just outside Dayton, Ohio. The film, a genre-defying creature feature, captivated audiences as it toured theaters and drive-ins across the Midwest, boasting numerous sellout shows and engaging Q&A sessions with Horton himself. The screenings continue at indie theaters and drive-ins, building anticipation for its streaming debut.
The film follows a gang of desperate criminals who, after a botched job, leave a bloody trail, retreat to a remote desert hideout. Their plans for refuge unravel quickly when they discover the area is the battleground of an ancient war between monstrous predators of day and night. As tensions escalate and the body count rises, the crew faces an impossible choice: trust one another or face the creatures hunting them.
Reflecting on the project, Horton shared, “A Hard Place is my big swing. It’s an epic monster-versus-monster movie that redefines the scope of indie horror. This film is by far the most ambitious project I’ve ever undertaken. Last night, we premiered it for the cast and crew, and I was overwhelmed by gratitude. This movie wouldn’t exist without the talent, generosity, and incredible spirit of everyone involved. It was a tough shoot, made even harder by extreme cold, but this team turned what could have been a disaster into what I believe is my best work yet. I’m deeply thankful to every person who gave their time, talent, and energy to this project.”
