Jazz vocalist and guitarist Nancy Goudinaki is ready to take center stage for the summer! Hailing from Greece, the artist referred to as Nancy G now lives and performs in the greater New York City area with her trio. Occhi featured her single, “Ariadne’s Lullaby,” a solo guitar tune dedicated to her baby niece, a few years ago. Since then, she received an endorsement from Moov Travel Guitar. This unique, lightweight folding guitar allows her to continue producing quality music whilst traveling the globe and playing at any venue, from a silent practice room to gigs at Birdland, The 55 Bar, and The Zinc Bar.
From the tender age of 8, Nancy knew that she wanted to pursue music and learned how to play classical guitar. Nine years later, she continued her studies with master classical guitarist Costas Cotsiolis and received her Master’s in Musicology/Fine Arts, her BA, and Masters with honors in classical guitar. This year, Nancy demonstrates her guitar skills with a new full-length album, What I Was For You: re.think.
This album encompasses original compositions and contemporary renditions of classical guitar masterpieces like Fuoco and la Catedral, utilizing different harmonies and vocalizations. This specific work is a celebration of women. Every woman goes through phases in her life, and the different stages inspired Nancy in her personal life to compose these tunes. The songs traverse a woman who is in love, a heartbroken woman, a homesick woman, and a woman who will be an aunt. Nancy explains, “a big part of my inspiration is my niece Ariadne, to whom I was inspired and composed a special lullaby.”
The album offers ten tracks, with two tracks featuring Goudinaki adding vocals. Her winsome, burnished, supple voice is delivered over this refreshingly unique repertoire. The musicality and fluid arrangement of the tracks underline the fervency of Nancy G’s attitude to this album and how personal this project is.
She self-produced What I Was For You: re.think and collaborates with world-renown artists Richie Goods, JD Allen, and Devo D. The result is a transformative listen, and worthy recognition of Nancy Goudianki as a talented instrumentalist.
The album drops on June 17th, 2022
