Rochester-based Jazz pianist Ben Miller was born in the Philippines, raised in Peru and upstate New York, and educated in Montreal and New York City.

Historically, Miller has been a member of several distinct music scenes, frequently performing with groups like the Orbiting Human Circus Quartet, Jesse Collins Quartet, Taru Alexander Quartet, Justice Freeman Quintet, and Rob Ingram, to name a few. His interest in composition and film scoring has led him into the world of digital music production and orchestration.

Undoubtedly, his background and exposure to musical influences have fuelled his artistry. This, coupled with his ongoing admiration for jazz and classical traditions, is exhibited with his debut trio album, Feathers of Ma’at. The album, featuring the stirring talents of Taru Alexander on drums and Joseph Lepore on bass, is an animating assortment of his own originals. The first eight tracks were recorded by Tom Tedesco at Tedesco Studios in Paramus, NJ, and mixed and mastered by Logan McKinney at Small Cove Productions in Rochester, NY. Miller recorded the final track, “Unjaded Hero,” at the Manhattan School of Music and engineered it at his own Third Motion Studios in Rochester.

Discussing ‘Feathers of Ma’at’,  The artist shares, ‘“I’ve been moving from place to place, playing and writing jazz for half my life now… I thought this was the right time to step back and see how far I’ve come.”

The title refers to Ma’at (pronounced ma-AHT), the eagle-winged Egyptian goddess who represents truth, order, balance, and justice. Several song titles relate to mythological figures, mathematical concepts, or the ancient arts of alchemy, spiritual anatomy, or numerology. The album, available von Truth Revolution Records, is evidence of his opulent musical and spiritual journey.

The album is now officially released on June 30th
