Julia Carlucci has released the official music video for ‘Best for You’ – the first single from her debut EP set for release in early 2021. The ‘Best for You’ music video evokes the nostalgia of the early 2000s, complementing the song’s throwback feel. The single, produced by Toronto’s Cat Lewis (Craig Stickland) and Alex Ernewein (Daniel Caesar, Charlotte Day Wilson), tells the age-old story of being ghosted by someone close to you. “We hear so many songs about resenting the people who’ve hurt you”, says the Toronto based artist. “I wanted to tell a story of letting go of that negativity and replacing it with forgiveness because that’s where I’ve tried to direct my energy in those situations.” Accompanied by hypnotic Spanish guitars and infectious modern drums, Julia flows in and out of the various scenes like a moving painting.
‘Best for you’ has full-bodied and fiery tones delivered with emotional depth and soulful vocals. Following the successful formula of Carlucci’s previous tracks, such as her version of The Weeknd’s ‘I Feel It Coming’, this track’s instrumentation of subtle synths and percussions will comfortably satisfy new and existing fans.
After moving to Los Angeles in 2018, Julia’s experiences performing for the industry’s elite would transform her life and artistry for the better. “I was so comfortable singing other people’s stories but terrified of singing my own. I was fighting vulnerability for so long and didn’t realize how much pain I was carrying around. My own stories were banging on the door and I couldn’t ignore them any longer.”
