Guitarist and composer Kenny Reichert releases Live in Chicago on January 16, 2026, via Shifting Paradigm Records. The album, recorded live at Pro Musica in October 2024, features Reichert’s quartet—Lenard Simpson (alto sax), Ethan Philion (bass), and Devin Drobka (drums)—delivering five original tracks that showcase their dynamic interplay and improvisational spirit.
Live in Chicago marks Reichert’s first live album as a bandleader, aiming to capture the group’s authentic sound with longer solos and freer interaction. Engineered by Ken Christianson, the recording highlights both the subtlety and raw energy of the performance.

Tracks include “Poppy Seed,” an angular opener with shifting moods; “Streak of Blue,” a reflective piece inspired by Athens, GA; “Spheres,” which favors conversational interplay; “Evening Camel,” evoking Mediterranean dusk; and “Eagle,” written during a Ragdale Foundation residency, balancing soaring melody with grounded form. This new release follows Reichert’s previous albums Deep Breath, Switch, and Fowl Play, and continues his reputation for music that is both adventurous and melodically clear.
