Kevin Olusola, the dynamic singer, cellist, and beatboxer renowned for his role in the 3x-GRAMMY® Award-winning a cappella group Pentatonix, is set to release his debut solo album, Dawn of a Misfit, on May 9 via Sony Music Masterworks. The multi-talented artist has already offered a glimpse of his groundbreaking LP with the electrifying lead single, “Dark Winter.” The track masterfully weaves together samples from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, symphonic strings, Olusola’s signature beatbox percussion, 808s, and fluid R&B hooks.

“Dark Winter” reveals a grittier side of Olusola, known for his exuberant joy, and its accompanying music video, directed by Ron Jaramillo, reflects that same edge. In the video, Olusola and his “Misfit Mafia” symbolically destroy classical artifacts, including cellos, paintings, and statues. “My misfits and I are completely demolishing them,” Olusola explains. “We don’t have to destroy the past, but we do need to break free from the traditions and stereotypes that confine us, so we can become who we’re truly meant to be. I want to shatter boundaries, only to reconstruct them into a new, harmonious whole.”

The album spans a wide emotional and thematic range, delving into spirituality, fatherhood, and the experience of being a first-generation individual in a Western country. Musically, it’s a bold fusion of classical, pop, R&B, and hip-hop, showcasing Olusola’s ability to push creative boundaries while staying deeply personal.
