Take an uncharted journey of the musical landscape created by legendary scratch DJ, Kid Koala aka Eric San. His fifth studio album, Music To Draw To: Satellite, is an expansive work of ambient, electronic soundscapes and chilling ballads sung by Icelandic artist Emilíana Torrini. Created during the gelid Montreal winter, its eighteen movements tell a tale of discovery and loss through the lens of lovers separated by an early Mars mission – a no return journey to settle the red planet. This is project is just one of many produced by Eric. The inaugural volume in the Music To Draw To series features him collaborating with a vocalist, writing lyrical poetry, and producing and performing all instruments. Satellite is the renowned audio-collagist’s first non-sample-based record; instead, he uses an array of synthesizers, keys, guitars, strings, turntables, noisemakers, including San’s inventive recording techniques, to lay out this heartrending, musical story. The result is a beautifully composed, ambient masterpiece, with over 72 atmospheric minutes ready to take you to another place.
