Brigitte Mulholland is delighted to present Niamh O’Malley’s debut solo exhibition with the gallery. Based in Dublin, O’Malley has exhibited internationally, including representing Ireland at the 59th Venice Art Biennale in 2022. Her work transforms the act of trying—capturing fleeting light, contemplating vast landscapes, and holding moments still—into tangible form. The exhibition showcases sculptures in steel, wood, and glass, alongside a film. In the gallery’s Salon, O’Malley also introduces graphite and watercolour works on panel, which complement and inform her sculptural practice.
.
O’Malley’s glass sculptures, crafted from cut shards wrapped in copper foil and soldered together, gently project from the wall, playing with light and solidity. While her glass pieces offer translucence and fragility, her graphite panels provide contrast with their dark, marked surfaces—each bearing the artist’s touch. Shelf works combine wood, glass, and metal in carefully balanced, subtly dynamic compositions. Other highlights include steel sculptures evoking foliage and forms that juxtapose strength with delicacy, as well as a film that grounds her materials in movement.
.
O’Malley’s distinctive methodology—marked by attentive material exploration and a balance of strength and subtlety—earns high praise, inviting viewers to experience both the physicality and poetry embedded in her work.
The show opens on September 4th and ends on October 11th. Please visit the Brigitte Mulholland website for further information.
