We had an opportunity to speak with her. Check out the interview below.
Hi, Antonella! Thank you for chatting with us about your latest series Feel the Dead. Tell us about your character Ramona.
I believe miracles happen. I used to work with a young and talented director, John Real. He called me to say, ” I have an international project, six television episodes, much like The Walking Dead, and I would like for you to play a role.
It was a memorable experience working with an international cast. We filmed in the woods of Sicily just below the famous Etna volcano.
We lived in a shelter on the volcano slopes for over a month, experiencing the same reality as the protagonists of the series. My character, Ramona, is a Mexican spy and I had to do some action scenes, as well. It was a wonderful mixture between strong personality and innocence.
You starring in a new film Frank and Ava. According to IMDB, “Frank & Ava joins the wild ride of the tempestuous relationship between icons, Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner showing their multi-year love affair and subsequent marriage.” You play Claudia. We know you can’t share music, but tell us how you received the role.
I’m very proud of the auditioning process because the writer and producer, Rico Simonini, thought of me when he created the character of a diva from the 50/60’s.
He thought I was perfect the role of Claudia Cardinale. He flew to Rome, and I did an informal audition with the director, Micheal Oblowitz. We shot in Rome at the Plaza hotel. I had some scenes with Eric Roberts and was honored to act alongside such an amazing actor. I feel very blessed to have had this experience.
What should the audience expect to see, when they watch the movie?
I have to admit the movie it’s very interesting and original, the love affair between Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner is very passionate and appealing to every kind of audience. They had a very controversial relationship but at the same time very romantic and intense.
How do you prepare to play a role? Do you have a specific process to get into character?
At the very beginning, I start by researching the character, so I have more than just a few elements to be able to see the world through the their eyes. To bring the character to life, I discover clues from the writing, while using my imagination to create unique behavior. Once I feel this is a good foundation to start, I go for it. My point of view always becomes more refined and deepens as I live fully in the character. These are a few tools I use to enter into the craft of creating a multidimensional, truthful experience as an actress.
Your career is on the rise. You have some amazing projects in development. What have you’re your takeaways for each project?
My artistic path was varied as I began working as a model. My intuition was very strong that I should explore acting so I can express more. I got the opportunity to play different roles in successful TV series, such as Carabinieri, Marshal Rocca, Police’s Department, Doctor in the Family 3, Rex, It Was My Brother, The Beauty Of Women 2, The Season of Crimes, and Moana.
I’ve also played several leading roles in films, such as The Sentimental Education of Eugenie, directed by Aurelio Grimaldi. I’ve also played minor roles in The Torturer by Lamberto Bava, The Family Friend by Paolo Sorrentino, The Night of the Sinner by Alessandro Perrella, The Red Dot by Marco Carlucci, The Anger by Louis Nero and Red Riding Hood by Giacomo K. Cimini.
Every movie is an important experience of life, to understand the women I play, to evolve and to caress the little child inside.
Thus far, what has been the best experience working in the entertainment industry?
My favorite and most memorable experience was on set of a 1700 century film which I played the role of Madame de Saint’Ange in The sentimental Education of Eugenie. The film was based on the original De Sade novel. My dream is to have an international career and I had the pleasure to work with the director, Aurelio Grimaldi. He was the first director to give Penelope Cruz a leading role and she became an international success.
Do you have any upcoming projects that we haven’t mentioned?
I’m happy to be the co-star of a movie about MMA. It will be released all over Italy on May 25th. The title of the film is called Milano in the Cage directed by Fabio Bastianello.
The true story of a fighter, who because of his injury to his physical appearance, is not understood and put on the margins of society. In reality, he is a good man and finds social redemption in the extreme and no rules sport MMA.
My character is a manager, and his ex-wife. She is hard and aggressive, putting up a wall to not be hurt, again. During the course of the film, my character transforms into a pillar of strength and balance for my ex-husband.
Complete this sentence, if I had an opportunity to do anything I want, I would do ___________.
Professionally, I would like to be work on an widely successful, international film. My dream is to co-star with Brad Pitt in a controversial love story directed by Steven Spielberg. Steven has been my inspiration, since I was a small child, and plays an important role in how deeply I love cinema.
Brad, Steven, and I share a birthday. I have always dreamed of celebrating with them, while we are on location filming our movie.
