Barret Turner is a producer and singer-songwriter from Dallas, Texas. It all started when he was just a kid and picked up a guitar. He was constantly making music but never seemed to let his songs go further than the four walls of his room, until now. For the past 5 years, Barret has been diligently working on his craft to now be able to share with you these new songs. These songs are unique and personal to Barret, so much so that he has been releasing each song as a new single every month.
Thank you for granting this interview with Occhi Magazine. Congratulations on your career to date. If you weren’t an artist, what would you be and why?
I would be a freelance videographer, which I am right now!
How did you get into music?
I started playing the guitar around 15 my buddy Travis was very good and he got me into playing instruments.
What has been your biggest challenge as an artist and how do you overcome it?
The biggest challenge is Featured singers and commitment. I’ve been lucky enough to search and search and I have found great singers to be a part of my songs but it can be difficult getting ahold of people.
You’ve been releasing a song as a new single every month. Please explain your creative process?
My creative process always starts with a piano part. I with play just a basic piano melody and then build a song from that.. Drums, Synths, bass, strings, ext… I then will send an instrumental or a song with my singing idea to a professional singer and see who fits the song best.
Were they written during the pandemic, and have you found the last 18 months a time to be creative?
Some were made during the pandemic, or at least a lot of unreleased songs have been. Everything that is out what written before then.
Please tell us more about your latest project titled ‘wait’.
‘Wait’ is a song I wrote about the thought of leaving someone behind. If your making the right decision or what going through life without that person would be like
Increasingly, music videos play a significant part in record releases and distribution. Please tell us more about your video productions and, in particular, your latest track.
I shot the music video myself with the help of a few friends. I had found a cabin I went camping at and it was perfect for a music video shoot. There weren’t any restrictions just a few friends and I having fun and creating a story.
Who would you love to collaborate with and why?
I would love to collaborate with Matt Maeson. I just love his voice and the way he can tell a story.
Can you share any information on other projects in the pipeline?
Yea! I have a bunch to come but a few that I’m excited about is a song I made with my friend Micah and it will feature Mackenzie Bourg. Another song I have will be featuring Hayley Orrantia. Very excited about those!
Where can our readers find out more about you?
