The marketing strapline for the movie is ‘The Fly meets Tremors in this year’s ‘buzziest’ new horror title! Unfortunately, I beg to differ. I would probably call it a horror pantomime. The storyline revolves around Aster, a reclusive high school bee enthusiast who is taken under the wing of a mysterious mentor named Tresa. Everything Aster loves is shattered. Snatched away to Tresa’s remote, nightmarish apiary, Aster finds herself captive to Tresa’s grotesque plan–being groomed as a diseased hive’s next queen. Aster must find the strength within to exterminate Tresa and her godforsaken brood to survive. While I liked aspects of the direction, the cinematography and the accompanying score, I wouldn’t say I approached this film ‘buzzing’ with excitement. The plot has more holes than your average beehive. It is very disjointed, with a weak storyline and wooden performances that leave you hoping for a speedy conclusion. Elizabeth McCoy, Sherry Lattanzi, and Fiona McQuinn star in director Sam Riley’s horror flick, to be released this September 14 from Uncork’d Entertainment.

Movie Rating: 2 stars.
