Philadelphia-based singer/songwriter Jeff Hartwig, known as Battleflagg, has released his new single and video “Ghosts”. This track is the first from his upcoming EP “Solastalgia,” co-produced by Daniel Knowles, who has worked with artists like Sharon Van Etten and Cigarettes After Sex. “Ghosts” blends expansive indie rock with synth-pop elements, capturing the essence of missed connections as familiar worlds fade away.
The EP “Solastalgia” draws inspiration from the concept defined by philosopher Glenn Albrecht as “the homesickness you have when you are still at home,” where one’s environment changes in distressing ways. Unlike nostalgia, solastalgia reflects a sense of loss and change beyond one’s control, often linked to environmental shifts. Hartwig’s music aims to evoke these feelings offering listeners a connection to shared experiences during times of change.
Battleflagg’s work continues to bridge Heartland, Americana, and Indie rock, with heartfelt lyrics and anthemic choruses. The EP “Solastalgia,” set for release on January 7, 2025, features collaborations with members of The War on Drugs, Ethel Cain, Japanese Breakfast, and Elvis Costello, promising a rich and diverse musical experience.
