Singer-songwriter, Jeen’s songs have been sought after for use in commercials as well as various movies and television programs. In addition to her solo work, Jeen has written songs for many recording artists and is a member of Cookie Duster with Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene.
“Chemical Emotion” is the lead-off track on her new album, Tracer, out October 21st. The track is about letting yourself drift in the flow of everything and hanging on as hard as you can to make the difficult parts more tolerable. The artist refers to the Hunter S. Thompson quote, ‘Buy the ticket, take the ride’ as the message of the track.
Chemical Emotion was written in April 2021, which was a difficult ride for the singer-songwriter, who confides, ‘I needed to write something that reminded me to tread lightly, to forget about the heaviness of everything.
Supported by musicians Ian Blurton, Stephan Szczesniak, and Robin Hatch, Jeen wanted the song to float freely without getting too weighted down, and the production simple.
She adds, ‘This sweet fox walked straight beside my car for a minute or two when I was up north…I had a couple of weeks left to make a lyric video and thought she was a perfect vibe for this track, also a good omen, so I looped her in.
