Owen Chen is a jazz guitarist based in New York City, known for his unique blend of musical influences. He holds a Master’s degree in Jazz Performance from NYU and an undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley. His education was enriched by studying with renowned mentors like Peter Bernstein and John Scofield. Owen’s musical journey began with classical violin training at age five, which laid the foundation for his diverse style that now incorporates cinematic soundtracks, anime music, progressive rock, and jazz. He actively leads residencies at venues such as The Red Pavilion and performs with the Victor Lin Studio Ghibli Sextet.
Owen Chen’s EP “Eternal” is a spiritually uplifting and nostalgic collection, brought to life with the help of his talented colleagues from NYU, including Joshua Roberts on drums, Sukyung Kim on piano, Sunhyun Yoo on alto sax, and Sean Hannon on the upright bass. The EP reflects Owen’s diverse influences, with tracks like “Solana Beach” capturing the warmth of his San Diego hometown and “Avalanche” showcasing progressive rock energy. Each composition evokes different stages of a hero’s journey, with “Infinity” highlighting New York’s musical diversity and “Eternal” offering a cinematic theme of resolution. This EP is a testament to Owen’s artistry, providing a rich and immersive musical experience.
