Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts continues its tradition of boundary-pushing programming with the unveiling of its 25/26 season, running from September 2025 through May 2026. This year’s lineup celebrates the artistry of the ten resident organizations, the rich cultural diversity of New York City, and the next generation of artists redefining the possibilities of their craft.

Among the season’s most anticipated events is the return of acclaimed choreographer Pam Tanowitz, who brings her evocative new work, “Pastoral,” to the Rose Theater from January 11–13, in collaboration with the Fisher Center at Bard.

“Pastoral” is an evening-length dance performance that invites audiences into a lush, multi-sensory world where music, movement, and visual art converge. Tanowitz, renowned for her inventive choreography and fresh approach to classical forms, originally set the piece to Beethoven’s iconic “Pastoral” Symphony. In a bold artistic move, she then partnered with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw, who created a new score that both honors and transforms Beethoven’s beloved work.

The result is a musical and choreographic palimpsest—layers of inspiration and reinterpretation, with Beethoven’s evocation of the natural world serving as a guiding spirit throughout the performance.

Adding another dimension to the production, painter Sarah Crowner’s abstract stage designs provide a vibrant, lyrical backdrop that moves in harmony with Tanowitz’s choreography. The collaboration between dance, music, and visual art creates an immersive experience, inviting audiences to see, hear, and feel nature in new and unexpected ways.

Critically acclaimed for its dazzling interplay of artistic disciplines, “Pastoral” stands as a testament to the power of creative collaboration and the enduring inspiration of the natural world.

A project of the Arnhold Dance Innovation Fund, with major support from the fund itself, “Pastoral” represents Lincoln Center’s commitment to fostering pioneering work in the dance world and beyond. Don’t miss Pam Tanowitz Dance’s “Pastoral” at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater this January—a performance that promises to move, inspire, and transport audiences through a breathtaking reimagining of nature, music, and movement.
