Singer-Songwriter Alexa Goldie has accomplished a lot; modeling for Turquoise, performing at the Mayor’s Gala twice, and Beverly Hills Grammys Pre Party. The singer-songwriter has won several competitions including the ‘Mic’s On Fire’, The Voice of The Ocean UK, Port Hope Idol, and CMTC. We featured Alexa when she released her debut EP ‘High Road’. Now, we are happy to catch up to discuss her latest project ‘He Would’, to be released shortly.

Thank you for agreeing to catch up with Occhi Magazine. How has 2023 been treating you?

So far, 2023 has been a great year. I am living in Nashville, performing in some of the most iconic venues and writing music every week. Tennessee is really started to feel like home. I left 2022 knowing that there were some milestones that I wanted to hit. Just a few months in, I’ve already checked a few things off my list. The list of goals I made mostly related back to music and I am excited to share that I will be releasing multiple singles this year. The first single being He Would. I’ve also booked summer music festivals, hit over 300K streams on Spotify alone for my song Come On Home, and hosted my first writers’ round at the Listening Room Café in Pigeon Forge. I have a good feeling about this year!

Please tell us about your latest project ‘’He Would’’ and its origins

Ava Paige, Kelli Johnson, and I wrote He Would in February last year. It was the first time we had ever met or written together, but we managed to write this one in under 2 hours. I went into the writing with the idea of wishing I could’ve told my younger self that the guys I was dating were not worth my time. As a young girl, in love, it can be easy to settle, at least it was for me. My mom would always tell me, “Alexa, if he wanted to fight for you, he would”. I’ve experienced so many of my friends being confused as to why their boyfriends weren’t giving them the time of day and I would always repeat those words that my mom would say to me… “If he wanted to, he would”. Ava and Kelli were great co-writers on this project and helped me fully dive into this idea. As I was leaving our write, I knew that we had a special song.

Please tell us more about the production of the track

Grady Saxman and his team worked on the production of this single. I knew that I wanted this song to speak volumes, rather than be an upbeat summer jam. We sat down in the studio and listened to some of the artist’s tracks that I brought in as inspiration. We ended up deciding that a stripped-back track with few instruments and low-key harmonies was the best approach. Usually, when we record a song, Grady has me step into the vocal booth during pre-production day and sing through the song once just as a rough scratch vocal. When we were doing this for He Would, Grady had me take three vocal takes and told me to come up for a listen. We ended up using most of those first vocal takes for the final project because they were so raw and real.

What other projects are in the pipeline?

The past few months have been very therapeutic for me, from a writing standpoint. I’ve been able to work with some really talented writers and I am excited to be heading into the studio with Kate Malone to work on a new project this month. All I can say right now is that this is some of my favorite music that I have ever released or been a part of. One of my goals for this year was to book a summer music festival with my band and I will be announcing those dates soon!
