New York-based Julian Lage has announced a headline show at the Barbican on 21 April 2024. Following a sold-out Union Chapel performance, this will mark his biggest London gig to date. Tickets are available here.
The acclaimed musician has spent more than a decade searching through the myriad strains of American musical history via impeccable technique, free association, and a spirit of infinite possibility. The California-born New York-based musician boasts a prolific resume on his own accord in addition to collaborating with Gary Burton and John Zorn, as well as duo projects with Nels Cline, Chris Eldridge, and Fred Hersch, among others. Julian Lage’s View With A Room (2022) is a collection of 10 compelling original compositions. On this second release for Blue Note Records, Lage casts his gaze outward to discover new orchestrational possibilities with his brilliant and deeply attuned trio of Jorge Roeder, one of the most versatile and expressive bass players in jazz today and founding member of The Bad Plus, drummer Dave King.
Julian’s latest EP The Layers (2023) is a stunning companion piece to his acclaimed 2022 album. Imbued with vibrant colors and exquisite interplay, ‘it has all the musical seeds that grew into what I consider the touchstones of View With A Room,’ says Julian, ‘a duo with Bill, a dui with Jorge, more atmospheric and expansive writing, Dave and Jorge’s incredible rhythmic and orchestral sensibilities.’
