Revenge horror, The Reaper Man opens with newlyweds Joseph (Kenon Walker) and Jessica (Jai Johnson) excited to buy their new home, only to be met with disappointment as it is offered to another buyer. Subsequently, they are dealt a devastating blow when an incident leaves Jessica unconscious and Joseph shot dead. Reminiscent of revenge horrors such as the Candyman, dealing with her depression, Jessica approaches Sheba (Tarsha Gibson), a voodoo priestess in an attempt to bring Joseph back. Joseph returns, taking bloody revenge on the individuals responsible for his death and those close to them. It is left to Jessica to intervene and cast Joseph back into the void to end the bloodshed.

Written and directed by Jaron Lockridge (director of Succuba, Down Bad: Life in the Hood), The Reaper Man is a low-budget indie. No special FX, cinematography with a simple plot, and does what it says on the tin. There is not a great deal of action, nor is the script very stretched. It is predictable. However, it is not a terrible film, particularly when considering it is a low-budget film and when drawing comparisons between this and multitudes of big-budget film projects. Director Lockbridge, in addition to writing and directing, was responsible for editing, producing, casting, and cinematography which should be acknowledged. Kenon Walker (Joseph), Taylor Gilliard (Ashley), and Derick Ha (DJ) are contributing producers. This a hands-on low-budget guerilla-style indie. The low budget shows but Lockbridge does well with the resources he has.

Movie Rating: 2.5 stars.
