Milan Records has released “Paper Airplanes,” a new original song from singer-songwriter Ruth B, as featured in the upcoming Netflix original film A Jazzman’s Blues. The film is written, directed, and produced by Tyler Perry. The romantic ballad composed by Ruth B. and multi-Grammy Award-winning musician Terence Blanchard features the Ethiopian-Canadian singer’s velveteen vocals above a rousing chorus of strings and piano. A sweeping tale of forbidden love, A Jazzman’s Blues unspools forty years of secrets and lies soundtracked by juke joint blues in the deep South. The film stars Joshua Boone and Solea Pfeiffer as star-crossed lovers Bayou and Leanne alongside an ensemble cast that includes Amirah Vann, Austin Scott, Milauna Jemai Jackson, Brent Antonello, Brad Benedict, Kario Marcel, Lana Young, and Ryan Eggold. The film features music by Aaron Zigman, music supervision by Joel C. High, and choreography by Debbie Allen. A Jazzman’s Blues will make its Netflix debut on Friday 23rd September.
Discussing the track, Ruth B shared, “After having initial discussions and going over the script with Tyler Perry’s team, I knew what Bayou’s and Leanne’s song needed to be – a song of longing and deep, timeless love, a once-in-a-lifetime love. I am endlessly thankful to Tyler Perry for trusting me with this song and giving me the opportunity to write my first original song for a major motion picture. A Jazzman’s Blues is an absolutely beautiful and classic story filled with depth and truth, and I’m so excited for the world to see.”
“I was overjoyed to work with Ruth B. who wrote and performed our song ‘Paper Airplanes,’” adds director and producer Tyler Perry. “This was a song we wanted to be an instant classic that would sound at home in 1947 as well as today. A great song is an extension of dialogue and ‘Paper Airplanes’ is exactly that. It speaks of heartbreak and the longing for love that spans distance, time, and tragedy. Ruth B. brought all of that to this magnificent song.”
This song is so Incredible to the point where I studied it I got the words down pack and I sing it as often as I can. Because it has truth and meaning to me I sing it every night before I go to bed. thank you for such a lovely song.
