Montreal’s genre-blurring band FLEECE is back, inviting listeners on an exhilarating ride with their latest single, “How Far Would You Go.” The track arrives as the first taste of their eagerly anticipated album, Tornado, set for release on October 1st.
With “How Far Would You Go,” FLEECE delivers a shimmering, groove-laden anthem that pulses with the electricity of new love and the tender uncertainty that comes with emotional awakening. It’s a song that glows with life—dreamy and buoyant, yet grounded by an undercurrent of introspection. Released in tandem with the official announcement of Tornado, the single perfectly captures the band’s knack for balancing playful sonic energy with deeper, more vulnerable lyricism.
Produced by Gus Van Go (whose credits include work with Metric, The Beaches, and Arkells) at Boiler Room Studios, “How Far Would You Go” is a vibrant burst of psychedelic pop. The track’s lush layers and tight, polished production create a sense of weightlessness, while the lyrics invite listeners to explore the push-and-pull between carefree joy and internal questioning.
Frontman Matthew Ryan Rogers (vocals, keys, bass) offers a candid glimpse into the song’s origins: “We wrote this song two summers ago when I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be touring and doing the whole band thing anymore. Musically, though, the song is quite the opposite—it’s got spark and it’s just pure fun. I really love the contrast between the lyrics and music on this one. For me, this is the closest we’ve come to writing a pop song—the lyrics are honest, and the production is tight.”
With “How Far Would You Go,” FLEECE proves once again that they’re masters of contradiction—melding honest, soul-searching storytelling with infectious, joy-fueled soundscapes. As anticipation builds for Tornado, the single is a dazzling preview of what’s to come.
