Dillon D. Jordan’s PaperChase Films secures three-script deal, including Kevin Kerslake’s feature directorial debut, and prepares for impressive 2018 rollout.
TORONTO (September 13, 2017) –PaperChase Films’ CEO Dillon D. Jordan has optioned three screenplays by writer/director Kevin Kerslake in a first look deal set to include Kerslake’s feature directorial debut. Additionally, Jordan has secured a sizable film-fund for PaperChase, which is set to roll out an ambitious slate for 2018.
“With our shared roots in Los Angles counter-cultures and Kevin’s distinct style in storytelling, there is an undeniable synchronicity in us teaming up on this material,” says PaperChase CEO Dillon D. Jordan. “Having been at the epicenter of not just one but several key turning points in pop culture, Kevin’s unique voice gives these scripts a rawness and authenticity that will resonate with audiences. TIFF is proving to be a vital place for PaperChase Films to catalyze an already impressive 2018 rollout. We couldn’t be more thrilled.”
Kerslake, a multiple award-winning music video director recently wrote, produced and directed the critically acclaimed doc, AS I AM: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF DJ AM. The PaperChase deal entails options for three of Kerslake’s original scripts including two hi-octane, music-driven projects based in Los Angeles, SILVER LAKE and DOUBLE HIT MICKEY, and a geo-political thriller adapted from Kerslake’s graphic novel, CIUDAD.
Jordan, who was part of the producing team on AS I AM: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF DJ AM is a producer on Joseph Kahn’s BODIED (alongside Eminem), the official TIFF 2017 Midnight Madness opening film, an EP on THE KID to be directed by Vincent D’Onofrio, starring Ethan Hawke and Dane Dehaan and produced by Jordan Schur, Nick Thurlow, and Sam Maydew , THE KINDERGARTEN TEACHER starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rosa Salazar and Gael García Bernal, whose additional producers include Celine Rattray of Maven Pictures, and the Boaz Yakin film BOARDING SCHOOL.
“Dillon is relentless,” says Kerslake. “What he has accomplished in the short time he’s been producing is unreal, reminiscent of legendary producers throughout the years who had the courage to blaze their own path. I’m incredibly fortunate to partner up with him on these projects. They’re each about very special moments in time which had a tremendous impact on where we are today.”
Kerslake has previously written for Sony, Warner Bros, Ed Pressman, Millennium Films, and Quentin Tarantino’s A Band Apart. After graduating with a degree in film from LMU, the writer/director vaulted to the forefront of a new wave of filmmakers who forged the visual identity of the MTV generation, directing seminal music videos for Green Day, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Prince, Nirvana, R.E.M., Depeche Mode and the Rolling Stones, plus commercials and branded content campaigns for the likes of Hyundai, Nike, Sony Playstation, Sprite and Coca-Cola. In addition to miniseries and one-hour dramas, Kerslake’s other notable long-form work includes definitive core culture docs on The Ramones, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Kelly Slater & the Quiksilver Surf Team, and Insomniac Events’ Electric Daisy Carnival, which infamously sparked a riot by overzealous fans outside its LA premiere on Hollywood Boulevard.
