‘Johnny Got His Gun’ is a politically fueled single directed towards teen violence and mass shootings.

Toronto, ON (March 12, 2019) – Canadian up and coming artist Emilie Feldberg, who goes by initials E.L.F., is excited to announce her debut single, “Johnny Got His Gun“. Produced in Alberta, E.L.F. wrote the song as a form of activism in response to the mass shootings she was watching on the news. “I was seeing kids my own age E.L.F.going to school and dying. I had empathy for what their friends and family were going through”, says E.L.F.. The talented teenager seamlessly ties emotion over a heavy drum lead opening, before moving into her impactful chorus pleading to listeners to take a stand against gun violence – her ultimate goal for the song.

E.L.F. ‘s new single “Johnny Got His Gun” is available on all streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music and more.

From a young age, E.L.F. has always found music to be her main form of creative expression and at just 17, E.L.F. can play a handful of instruments and teaches piano. “I knew I wanted to be a recording artist in my 20’s, I just didn’t know what type of music I would be recording,” says E.L.F. Initially, E.L.F. did not set out to write – let alone record – a political single. She became interested in many causes in her early teen years and educated herself on topics like equality, diversity, feminism, and LGBTQ+ rights. These themes became important for her music, but it wasn’t until the Pulse shooting in Orlando that she felt the need to create change through music, like “Johnny Got His Gun”. “This song shows the effect American school shootings had on me, and I think it’s important to see that they were catastrophic enough to inspire a teenage girl to write a song,” says E.LF. She says students of her generation just want the violence and the lack of safety at school to stop. Feeling the need to show her support for victims of these mass shootings, E.L.F. penned her single as a way to get out some personal frustrations and then brought the single to her piano teacher, Stephanie Dawn, who saw the potential in the song. She connected E.L.F. with Juno award-winning Producer, Mike Little, who helped her perfect the song to resonate with her fans and help communicate the message about teen violence and mass shootings. Mike Little is a multiple Juno and CCMA award-winning E.L.F.Producer, Songwriter and Session Musician. He has played on hundreds of albums and over one hundred radio singles. Mike is a co-owner of The Legion Lounge Recording Studio where he produces records and does remote recording for artists worldwide. Speaking about E.L.F., Mike notes that “Emilie is an amazing talent, a songwriter wise beyond her years”.
