SATURDAY, JULY 21, 2018: Katra Film Series returns to its namesake venue on the Bowery for the 2018 Summer Series marking its 6 Year Anniversary. The Official Selections are comprised of 90% Female Filmmakers from around the world. Of the 11 shorts in our Summer lineup, 10 were made by a female writer, director or producer.

We are pleased to bring you the World Premiere of a gritty New York Film starring Michael Douglas’s son Cameron Douglas and Executive Produced by Uma Thurman’s brother Dechen Thurman. We also have a block of timely films addressing the MeToo movement including the short film Honeypot, directed by Jill Greenberg (internationally renowned artist and photographer), which was inspired by the audio of Harvey Weinstein obtained by the NYPD’s sting operation in 2015 with Ambra Gutierrez, and Lollipop, directed by Hanaa Saleh Alfassi (alumni of the Sundance Institute), a powerful selection from Saudia Arabia about a 14-year-old girl experiencing the onset of puberty which means she must wear a full black Niqab.

Now in its 7th season, Katra continues to showcase new works with a simple mission in mind: to champion undiscovered works that reflect our world and to serve as a launching pad for emerging filmmakers especially from underrepresented and marginalized communities. The Best Short Prize will be selected by a live audience vote and the winner takes home over $2,000 of in-kind prizes courtesy of 3636 Studios, The Yards: Space to Work, and International Screenwriters’ Association.
