London-born rising star saxophonist George Winstone has announced the release of his latest recording, titled ‘Odysseus’ The project is a full-length duo improvisation with iconoclastic guitar champion Ben Monder. bBolstered by the endorsements of artists such as  Chick Corea, Jacob Collier, Chris Potter, and Monder, George Winstone relocated to New York City in March 2019, bringing his characteristically radiant sound, progressive technical concept, and fearless aesthetic spirit into conversation with the finest in contemporary jazz.

His migration to New York, made a year before the beginning of the pandemic, was driven by a sense, long-felt, that his place was really in the United States. “Instinctively, I felt there would be more space for me to grow as an artist,” he reflects. “For the Americans, the jazz tradition: it’s part of your land, your history, in a very visceral way. There’s an exuberance of spirit and a playfulness that occurs in the American musicians: a freedom.” He is poised as a new voice: one whose vision for the future is beholden to a boundary-breaking study of the past. Now, the 28-year-old’s latest effort, spontaneously composed from beginning to end, juxtaposes an entire journey’s-worth of his darting melodies against Monder’s haunting glacial soundscapes.
