Shakespeare Sisters & Candr Pictures are thrilled to announce the UK cinema release of their British sci-fi comedy, Time Travel Is Dangerous, hitting screens on 28th March.
Written and directed by Chris Reading, with co-writing and production by Anna-Elizabeth and Hillary Shakespeare (the Shakespeare Sisters), the film boasts a stellar cast of British comedy legends, including Johnny Vegas (Benidorm, Bleak House), Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous), Sophie Thompson (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Gosford Park), and Mark Heap (Spaced, Green Wing).
Narrated by Stephen Fry, the film also features standout performances from Brian Bovell (Love Actually, Gimme Gimme Gimme), Tony Way (After Life, Game of Thrones), Guy Henry (Harry Potter, Bridgerton: Queen Charlotte), Tom Lenk (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Laura Aikman (Gavin and Stacey, Archie), and Kiell Smith-Bynoe (Ghosts, Stath Lets Flats).
Time Travel Is Dangerous is a quintessentially British comedy that blends sharp wit, eccentric characters, and a touch of the absurd with a heartwarming story at its core.
The plot follows best friends Ruth and Megan, who run a vintage shop in Muswell Hill. Their lives take a hilarious turn when they discover a time machine, sparking the idea to “borrow” stock from the past—because, well, it’s free. Their intentions are harmless: no bank heists or history-altering antics, just a hunt for a Victorian lamp or a retro 80s bum bag. But navigating the “Unreason,” a chaotic time-space vortex, proves that time travel is, indeed, dangerous.
The film has already garnered critical acclaim during its international premieres at the Austin Film Festival, FrightFest Halloween, and Trieste Science+Fiction Festival. Reviewers have praised it as “endearing, surreal and funny” (Sci-Fi Now) and “a hilarious, exciting, nerve-wracking adventure that made me question my beliefs on what a sci-fi movie is supposed to be” (MovieJawn).
Director and co-writer Chris Reading shared his enthusiasm: “I can’t wait for people to experience Time Travel Is Dangerous on the big screen. I set out to make a lighthearted mockumentary about my two friends and their love of vintage, and in the process, we’ve created something real, heartwarming, and hopefully as much fun to watch as it was to make!”
Co-writers and producers Anna-Elizabeth and Hillary Shakespeare added, “The film is such a mad mix of documentary-style reality about real-life shop owners Ruth and Megan, spiraling into a totally wacky, Gilliam-esque world. We’re so excited to bring it to UK cinemas because it’s a very silly, light-hearted comedy that’s best enjoyed in a room full of laughter with friends!”
