‘I Love You’ is the latest release from the album ‘Bits & Pieces’ by Ugandan singer Juliana Kanyomozi. The song and indeed the album is tastefully understated with rich, rounded tones and themes that provide a slight philosophical and theoretical flavor. This only adds to making it thought-provoking as well as easy on the ears.
The song is a celebration of love, a desire for mutual respect, understanding and acceptance; something we should all be able to understand or relate to. Whilst the album illustrates some musical exploration, trending slightly into a fusion of genres such as Soul and Afro-beat, this track (notably performed in English) is probably one of the more conservative from the album with its straightforward delivery, exhibiting a melodic form you would expect from a love ballad. The track’s musical influence appears to be a dip into soul, electronica and pop, while providing a vehicle for Kanyomozi’s own style and personality to shine. Her gentle, reined-in vocals are clear, perfectly accurate; full of emotion and the track subtly indicates the depth of her range. Moreover, the maturity and clarity of her voice on the track exhibits a slightly jazz -toned feel that spurs comparisons to the likes of a young Diane Reeves, India Arie or Lizz Wright. Perhaps ‘I love you’ isn’t mind-blowingly brilliant but it is another song that evidently exhibits the talent of this artist. The track and CD now available on available on iTunes, Spotify, Deezer, and other major platforms.
