We caught up with her again as she releases a new single titled ‘Come on Home’.
Thank you for agreeing to catch up with Occhi Magazine. Congratulations on your career to date. For readers unfamiliar with you, how did you get into the music industry?
My first experience in the music industry was at 10 years old when I auditioned in my hometown of Kingston, Ontario to be the lead singer for a rock band. I ended up getting to the role for 5 separate bands and my love for performing grew from there! When I was 13, I was signed to an independent record label and spent most of my teen years in Los Angeles writing, performing, and recording music! When I was 16, I decided to go out on my own and switch from the pop genre to country. Since a very young age, my favorite songs to listen to and write have always been within the country genre.
We interviewed you during the COVID 19 lockdown to discuss your career and EP. How have you and your loved ones been since the start of the pandemic?
We have gratefully made it through and are happy that we are coming to the other end of it! In Canada, we did go through various lockdowns, which we made the best of by having game nights, going out on walks, and finding new hobbies. One thing that my Mom and I enjoyed doing during the pandemic was finding new music to listen to! Being stuck at home gave us lots of time to do so! Because we were in lockdown, most of my writing sessions and performances were virtual. My family made the best of it by watching my live streams and listening to my zoom-written songs! I am super thankful that I got to spend so much quality time with my family!
It seems you’ve kept yourself busy. You’re about to release a new single titled’ Come on Home’ next month. Please tell us more about the song and its origins.
I am over the moon excited about releasing my next single Come On Home. If you have listened to my music in the past, you know that most of it is sad and slow. This song is fun for summer, it is upbeat, happy and something I believe listeners will be able to relate to. I wrote Come On Home with my co-writer Shantaia in Nashville earlier this year! I went into the writing session knowing that I wanted to write something that people could turn up in the car! I introduced the idea of wanting to write about moving in and taking the next step with my boyfriend. Come On Home is a song about the turning stone from living apart from your boyfriend or girlfriend and taking that next step to move in together and make things more serious!
You’ve now moved to Nashville. Please share your experience so far. How is it shaping the direction of your career and your appreciation of the industry?
I moved to Nashville in December of 2021 and I can confidently say that I have fallen in love with the city, the people, and my career. When I first visited Nashville, I got a small glimpse into what it would feel like to be a full-time country songwriter and performer. Now, I understand the hustle and hard work that goes into making something of yourself in this city. The music industry is not an easy one, but I have learned that with persistence, you meet the right people at the right time. My goal this year is to continue meeting people, writing new music, and pushing myself outside my comfort zone. Nashville at first was intimidating but now I know it’s the place for me!
What other projects are you currently working on?
I am working on putting a band together in Nashville, recording more music, and crafting together music videos for my upcoming releases!
