Some artists want to entertain their audience, while other musicians want to achieve something much deeper: creating a real emotional connection with their valued listeners. Raye Zaragoza certainly can entertain her audience, but she also proudly falls back into the latter category. Her music is deep, personal and expressive, often echoing the work of performers such as Ani DiFranco, Christina Perri or Regina Spektor, just to mention a few.
Recently, Raye set out to release the official music video clip for “American Dream” her recent tune. The song has a very elegant and minimalistic arrangement, mainly based on Raye’s stunningly heartfelt vocals and guitar chords and arpeggios. The song has a beautiful minimalistic feel that flirts with neo-folk and pop in equal doses, with a stark and elegant arrangement. This song definitely stands out as a powerful lesson for all listeners, but also for all other songwriters out there: the sheer power of utter simplicity will never truly go out of style. “American Dream” is a very simple track at its very core, yet the many layers of emotional complexity that Raye can deliver the song are absolutely mind-blowing.
