Star2, an Asian-American artist with an inspiring journey of resilience, continues to break barriers with his latest single and music video, “Where Would You Go?” Born in a Ka-ren refugee camp in Thailand, Star2’s life story is a testament to perseverance. Rising above a childhood of loss, hardship, and poverty, he has crafted a unique global sound blending pop and hip-hop. Beyond his music, Star2 serves as a beacon for the Ka-ren music community, using his platform to elevate other Asian artists. His impressive collaborations include big names like Soulja Boy, Mozzy, Lil Poppa, Luh Kel, HoodTrophy Bino, $tupid Young, and Sprite.
“Where Would You Go?” is a powerful collaboration featuring Sprite and R&B sensation Luh Kel. The track delves into the frustration of questioning someone’s loyalty, with lyrics seamlessly transitioning between English and Thai. Its vibrant fusion of R&B-infused melodic hip-hop is both poignant and captivating, showcasing Star2’s ability to connect deeply with listeners across cultures.
The music video, filmed at the iconic Wat Saket (The Golden Mount) in Bangkok, adds a layer of cultural significance to the project. This ancient Buddhist temple, where monks live and pray, serves as a breathtaking backdrop. Key scenes were shot in a cave on the property, featuring a large replica of the Bamiyan Buddha—a towering 33 ft. statue from central Afghanistan destroyed by the Taliban in 2001 and later recreated to honor lost cultural heritage. The video beautifully intertwines Thai history and spirituality, creating a visual masterpiece.
“Where Would You Go?” is a track from Star2’s upcoming EP, No Place Like Home, set to release on May 9th. Reflecting on the project, Star2 shares, “I wanted to bring Luh Kel, a huge R&B talent, to Thailand and introduce him to Sprite, a longtime fan. The song carries out an R&B vibe that works perfectly with Sprite’s vocals. Kel and Sprite became great friends, and we all loved exploring Thai culture and food together.”
With this release, Star2 continues to push creative boundaries, blending cultures, genres, and personal storytelling into a sound that is as dynamic as it is heartfelt. “Where Would You Go?” not only highlights his artistry but also celebrates the richness of Thai culture and the power of global collaboration.
