Taya Marquis is a Toronto-based singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur with a fierce, ambitious fire. She has opened for Taylor McFerrin and Tinashe, co-wrote with Ke$ha, and been blessed with in-studio mentorship sessions with Jay-Z’s engineer, Young Guru, for her EP i’mperfect. Written by Taya and produced by Neo Tempus, “Strive” is a modern pop song paying homage to reggae, dancehall and a fusion of beats.
Featuring on her latest EP, the single aims to empower listeners to be the best versions of themselves. This simple ballad’s raw and arresting lyrics are provided with texture rather than power by this talented artist and its composition and instrumentation result in a memorable track that has the potential of being one of this year’s anthems.
Taya led the creative direction of the music video, alongside choreographer Jami Lynne Harper, to reflect her battle with inner demons throughout life. The video is directed by Alimzhan Alan Sabir who featured in BOOOOOOOM, Hypebeast, NPR, Nowness and VIMEO Staff Pick for his directorial debut E_GO . He was also nominated for his cinematography on the feature film A Gentleman and editorial work on Bosco’s music video “Cruel” at the Ampia Awards) It is produced by Jessica D’Angelo. We hope you enjoy the video and tell us what you think.
