Mali Obomsawin performs on Thursday, January 30 at 7:30 pm at the David Rubenstein Atrium. Obomsawin, a versatile and accomplished creator, is a bassist, composer, vocalist, and proud member of the Odanak First Nation. Her diverse body of work encompasses jazz, roots music, indie rock, experimental sound, film scoring, and educational programs for all ages. As an internationally touring artist and renowned accompanist, her current projects include the shoegaze duo Deerlady, the Julia Keefe Indigenous Big Band, and her own free-jazz ensemble, which is making its debut at Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium. Obomsawin’s music richly draws from her Native heritage and explores the complexities of achieving freedom under colonialism, all while challenging listeners with her expressive harmonies.
