Tull Stories presents The Spin, a warm, feel-good road trip comedy set to screen as part of the distributor’s Joy Of Cinema strand. The film arrives in UK and Irish cinemas from 27 February, inviting audiences to settle in for a story that’s equal parts music obsession, friendship, and madcap momentum.

Directed by filmmaker Michael Head, whose previous work includes Bermondsey Tales: Fall of the Roman Empire, The Spin follows Dermot (Brenock O’Connor) and Elvis (Owen Colgan), two devoted music lovers trying to keep their struggling record shop alive in Omagh, Northern Ireland. Their passion for vinyl is real, but so is the pressure: an unpaid rent bill hangs over them, and their landlord Sadie (Tara Lynne O’Neill, Derry Girls) is more than ready to see them out of the building.

Just when it feels like the walls are closing in, a lifeline appears in the form of a deal that sounds almost mythical: rare, vintage records from blues legend Robert Johnson, reportedly for sale in Cork at a knock-down price. If Dermot and Elvis can get there in time, they might just secure the kind of treasure that could save the shop and buy them a future.

The catch is time. With only two days to make it across Ireland, the pair set off in a rusty Vauxhall that’s seen better decades, chasing a dream that’s part hustle, part pilgrimage. Along the way, their journey opens out into something bigger than a simple mission, as they meet locals, make unexpected connections, and discover that the road has its own way of rewriting your plans.

Off-the-wall and full of heart, The Spin is rooted in a semi-autobiographical short story by Omagh music star Mark McCausland (The Lost Brothers, The Basement, McKowski), who also provides the film’s folk soundtrack. That musical backbone gives the story an extra pulse, grounding the comedy in a genuine love for place, people, and the records that shape our lives.

The cast expands beyond its central trio with appearances from Kimberley Wyatt of the Pussycat Dolls, as well as Maura Higgins, who makes her feature-length acting debut. The film also includes cameos from Irish music royalty, including Barry Devlin (Horslips) and Steve Wickham (The Waterboys), adding a knowing nod to the culture that inspires the story.

Speaking on the UK cinema release, director Michael Head described The Spin as “a feel good buddy movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously,” adding that he hopes audiences enjoy watching it as much as the team enjoyed making it.

Jonny Tull, founder of Tull Stories, also shared his excitement about the release, noting that Joy Of Cinema was created to give independent and world cinema fans “a fun time at the pictures.” With thousands of people already turning out to enjoy the strand’s releases together over the last year, Tull says he’s eager to see how audiences embrace Head’s “lovely, funny film.”

The Spin will be in UK and Irish cinemas from 27 February
