Join a collection of artists for ‘Seeking Ways to Connect’ at North London’s Caxton House Community Centre this Saturday, August 31st from 2 pm.
Entwined Voices is an outdoor participatory performance and installation by Bettina Fung | 馮允珊 and Catherine Harrington. A follow-up on their earlier collaboration “Trees Talk,” this event explores our relationships with the more-than-human world, spanning past, present, and future, and weaves together voices of the living and deceased on the grounds of a former workhouse. The performance highlights the need for care among humans and non-humans and invites the audience to help create an on-site art installation.
Bark to Flesh: Skin of Paper, is a collaboration by Karen Le Roy Harris, Bettina Fung | 馮允珊, Catherine Harrington, and Colleen Bartley where participants commune with trees through rubbings that capture their skin onto paper. These tender impressions, extended through movement, explore the interconnectedness of tree and body, fostering empathy between them. This performance encourages active participation, inviting you to observe and engage as we move and learn alongside the trees.
The performances will conclude at Five Years Gallery, where drinks and snacks will be provided. Here, you can explore Seeking Ways to Connect, a collaborative exhibition that brings together artists from diverse disciplines including Colleen Bartley, Bettina Fung | 馮允珊, Catherine Harrington, and Karen Le Roy Harris. Emerging from a two-week residency in Jersey, this exhibition examines the interconnections between body, land, sea, and art-making. The outdoor performances start at Hillside Park in Archway and lead back to Five Years Gallery. Please meet outside the entrance to Caxton House Community Centre. If you have any accessibility needs for the outdoor performances please email to let us know karen@karenleroyharris.com. If you would like to visit the exhibition after the performances please note there are 3 steps into the gallery and so is not wheelchair accessible.
