Vancouver indie artist, Jillian Lake, mixes velvet sounds and big feelings to transport you into her world of sweet sorrow in a way that will make you want to take your broken heart out dancing. Feelings transposed onto paper and into music, movements, and visuals – her complex collage of sound with moody folk undertones can be compared to indie female powerhouses like Feist, Maggie Rogers, and Phoebe Bridgers.

Teaming up with musician and producer, Jordan Klassen, who brought his cinematic and syncopated style to her stripped-down singer-songwriter form, together they created an album that combines her raw poetry and instinct for melodies with his expertise in song structure and instrumentation.

Off of the upcoming album is the emotional “Steady Hands,” a song that narrates a challenging time for the songwriter, where she was experiencing vulnerable and raw moments of grief and heartbreak to self-discovery and falling in love. Lake confides, “I wrote this single when I was heartbroken living on the 22nd floor of an apartment right off Sunset Beach in Vancouver. I would sit in the living room and stare out at the most beautiful sunset over the horizon, and think – how can I not feel happy in this moment? I twistedly love the aching feeling because that’s what inspires my art. I am majorly influenced by my surroundings, my day-to-day, the people I see on the bus, the mundane walk to work, the sad sunset – I let it all affect how I’m feeling, and that in turn comes out in my writing.”

With a reminiscent and nostalgic tone, “Steady Hands” sees the artist blurring the lines between folk, indie, pop, and singer-songwriter. Her soft, delicate vocals and wistful harmonies dance atop warm, organic instrumentation, resulting in a heartfelt, sentimental release. Jillian Lake has garnered notable press, as well as editorial playlisting on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon, reaching over 100K plays on one of her most recent singles. She has also had the pleasure of opening for Luca Fogale and is currently planning an international tour.
