Crowdfunding was all the rage a few years ago. Times have changed. More filmmakers are using crowdfunding platforms, such as Kickstarter and IndieGoGo, to attempt to fund their film projects. The problem with using these platforms is you’re not the only one trying to get funding. Just like you, other filmmakers are trying to get funding, so the competition to get your project seen by potential backers is challenging.
Now, here’s the kicker. Backers may not care about your project. They want to know what’s in it for them. What juicy rewards are you offering to tempt them to donate? So, how do you raise funds? You can ask friends and family, and boy, can that get old quick! Some people send DMs to their social followers. You risk getting reported as spam. It’s best to hold events that can help you raise funds. The key is to spend as little as possible to maximize your profit return. Check out my ideas below.
Fun Flicks is an excellent way to go. Here’s what they say. “Give your community a fun-filled outdoor movie event with FunFlicks® Outdoor Movies! We provide indoor & outdoor movie equipment rentals for schools, pools, parks, apartments, communities, churches, backyards and more anywhere in America. Our rentals include large portable inflatable movie screens, premium projection, concert-grade sound system & event technicians to host your community outdoor movie night or backyard party rental. We do the hard work of delivery, outdoor movie theater set-up & hosting – you simply provide the movie, electric & audience.”
Prices vary and may seem steep. The lowest is $1,495. The highest is $9,595. However, you can obtain sponsors to cover the cost. They can advertise on the screen. How sweet is that? Sure, you can use a projector and a white wall for a DIY version. However, you have to find studios or aggregators that will rent DVDs to you for a fee. You can also book a local theater, too. These are excellent ways to raise funds for your film. Don’t forget to add your movie to the trailers, so you can start generating interest in your film.
Hold your own film festival in your backyard. Gather a network of filmmakers looking to showcase their work and invite the public to the event. Sell tickets. Make it a summer series so you can showcase movies each weekend for several weeks. The money adds up!
Never forget to sell merchandise at your event. Statement T-shirts sell fast! That’s another way to raise funds!
