All You Need is Love - Black Films

AllYouNeedIsLove-BlackFilms4I had a great discussion with a friend of mine about recognizing when a person is right for you. You just know they’re the one. It’s your soul recognizing its counterpart in another. I will say this, if you’re not in tune with who you are, then you may miss the signs. Sometimes the signs are subtle. Sometimes they gobsmack you in the face.

Does your heart sing when you see their face or hear their voice? Or, is it subtle, like that person is always on your mind? You see and hear their name everywhere. You wonder how their day is going. You’re wondering what they’re doing. You see their achievements and you cheer them on in the background. You wonder what it would be like to spend time with them. You may even imagine spending time with them. You wonder what you would say if you did spend time together.

This person is the one. However, whether out of fear or career choice, you never pursue it. You don’t take that leap of faith. You stay with the familiar. It’s easier. It doesn’t require any risk. It’s simple and easy. Unfortunately, those relationships don’t last. Even worse, some choose to remain single out of fear. Also, you must avoid the hookups and friends with benefits route. This often leads to disastrous results—misunderstandings, one-sided love, and broken hearts—who wants that?

Some people allow that one opportunity to live an extraordinary life to disappear because they are too afraid to just say, “Hello.” The one for you doesn’t come wrapped in an obvious package. You typically meet them under non-typical circumstances. That alone strikes fear in some. It’s not what they’re used to. If you truly want to be happy, then you’re going to have to trust yourself. – Trust yourself and tell yourself you deserve to be happy. Stop the excuses, like you’re too busy to date. That person will understand your lifestyle and flow with you, not against you because you’re a team, a partnership, a union. They will get “you” and all your quirks, nuances, passions, and interests. They will uplift, strengthen, encourage, support, and help you be a better human.

So, stop being lost in what-ifs, ands, and buts. It’s your life. Live it. Life is short enough as it is! Stop waiting for that perfect moment! There’s no such thing. Oh, and it’s called faith. Leap!

I must confess that I have an obsession with romance —in a healthy, good, and spiritual way. Love is like a unique gift. At every opportunity, it should be celebrated and shown appreciation. While considering which movies to cover, I thought I do a mix of older movies with newer ones. My list exhibits a real passion for unconditional love. There were so many excellent movies to feature. It was a challenge to choose just ten.

I sat down and finalized my list of 10 Popcorn-Worthy African-American Films to Watch on Any Day of the Week that you can enjoy. Keep reading to find one you may want to watch.
