Robot

Artificial intelligence comes in two forms: terminators and a central computer system. The intelligence demonstrated by a machine frightens many people. It makes a great psychological thriller. Check out my picks for top artificial intelligence films.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)

Directed by Steven Spielberg, a robotic boy is the first programmed to love. David (Haley Joel Osment) is used as a test case by a Cybertronics employee (Sam Robards) and his wife (Frances O’Connor). As they slowly develop an attachment to David, issues arise where David will never become a part of their family. This prompts him to embark on a journey to discover his place in the world.

What I enjoy most about this film is it resonates with those who are trying to find where they fit in society. As humans, we are told how to act, speak, and live. For many, this can cause complications because they choose to live by their own rules and forge their own path. Some eventually discover who they are, while others never do. This is a great film to watch with your family.

Ex Machina (2015)

What happens when loneliness sets in and you seek companionship? In this film, Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson), programs at an Internet company for a brilliant CEO, Nathan Bateman (Oscar Isaac). Smith is invited to Bateman’s estate after winning a company contest. He spends a week as a human test component to determine the capabilities and consciousness of Ava (Alicia Vikander), a beautiful robot. It soon becomes evident that Ava is far more self-aware and deceptive than either man imagined.

The only issue I have with this film is the use of the ‘Delilah effect’ to tell the story of lust and betrayal. It’s overdone. Put a fork in it! For those who may be unfamiliar with the biblical story of Samson and Delilah, Delilah seduced Samson to divulge the source of his strength. The result is the loss of his glorious mane bestowed on him by Jehovah God. Additionally, Samson was blinded by the Philisʹtines and enslaved.

Ava successfully pits the Smith and Bateman against each other. Like Delilah, she successfully sows the seeds of distrust between them.

An imposing black structure provides a connection between the past and the future in this enigmatic adaptation of a short story by revered sci-fi author Arthur C. Clarke. When Dr. Dave Bowman (Keir Dullea) and other astronauts are sent on a mysterious mission, their ship’s computer system, HAL, begins to display increasingly strange behavior, leading up to a tense showdown between man and machine that results in a mind-bending trek through space and time.

2001: Space Odyssey (1968)

Stanley Kubrick adapted sci-fi author Arthur C. Clarke’s short story to make the film. Bowman (Keir Dullea) and other astronauts are sent on a mysterious mission. Bowman soon distrusts HAL 9000, their ship’s central computer, when he becomes combative and antagonistic.

2001: Space Odyssey is an iconic film that will never age. Kubrick created the blueprint for space films.

I, Robot (2004)

In 2035, highly intelligent robots fill public service positions throughout the world, operating under three rules to keep humans safe. Despite his dark history with robotics, Detective Del Spooner (Will Smith) investigates the alleged suicide of U.S. Robotics founder Alfred Lanning (James Cromwell) and believes that a human-like robot (Alan Tudyk) murdered him. With the help of a robot expert (Bridget Moynahan), Spooner discovers a conspiracy that may enslave the human race.

Detective Del Spooner (Will Smith) investigates an alleged suicide of U.S. Robotics founder Alfred Lanning (James Cromwell). Spooner has a problem. He hates robots. Will his prejudice prevent him from ensuring justice is served? What I enjoy most about the film is the use of discrimination. Spooner hates robots so much that he blindly follows the clues because he’s intent on arresting a robot for murder.

The Terminator (Film Series) (1984)

Personally, they could have stopped after they made “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. ” I can only recommend the first three films. I stopped watching it after that. “Terminator: Dark Fate” is the soft reboot of the series. Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger reprise their roles.
