There is an unmistakable feeling of vulnerability when hearing MYKA’s dynamic vocals and self-reflective lyrics. Defined by his experiences in his late teens and early twenties, his tender demeanor is colored through his obvious soul searching, both musically and personally. MYKA’s use of innovative angles and unpredictable direction prove that there is no single genre that can define him. Captivating his audience with his affinity for irresistible melodies and cinematic choruses, the multi-talented artist exudes an energy at live performances that you would have to see to believe.

As a Greensboro, NC native, MYKA started recording music at the early age of thirteen via a makeshift studio at his cousin’s house. By the time he was legal, he had already released three mixtapes and various singles. During his late teen years, his family was constantly moving state-to-state. This allowed MYKA to steep himself into multiple cultures and music scenes, eventually leading to a sharp focus on exactly who and what he wanted to become.

Fast forward to April 2019, MYKA was in Nashville, Tennessee recording his debut EP ‘Where We Go From Here. Artists such as Kid Cudi, Frank Ocean, N.E.R.D, MGMT, The XX, and Beach House all helped in influencing his versatile and genre-bending sound.

With his latest release, titled “Gucci bloom,” the songwriter continues to push the status quo with his bold conceptualism and experimental poise, reflections on lost love and painful endings as it relates to dating. Inspired by a girl he met on Tinder who abruptly cut things off, leaving him hurt and confused, the rich and emotionally poignant narrative lets his listeners know exactly what he’s going through, right down to the finest cracks in his broken heart. The song’s title is symbolic of the woman’s favorite fragrance, ‘Gucci Bloom’, and represents the fleeting memory of her scent and the last remaining token of their short-lived romance.

MYKA confides, “I was a little upset. I didn’t like how she did it. The message is basically about not repeating relationships or things over again the same way you did before but with different people. It’s happened to me a bit, but it’s just because I didn’t learn the other times. You gotta stop repeating bad habits. It’ll take time, but no matter what, always choose you first. It happens to the best of us especially when you’re in the moment”.
