Similar Kind is an indie pop band from Norwalk, CT. It originated from a few friends jamming in a garage and has blossomed into a five-piece band playing shows all over the northeast. Similar Kind has played with acts such as Sunflower Bean, Hot Flash Heat Wave, No Vacation & more. The band is currently working on a follow-up EP to their debut “Faces & Places” a project chock-full of indie pop, reminiscent of The Cure and Talking Heads, described as “dance-ready synth-pop. equal parts R&B, pop, and indie rock, the EP is a highly-polished, thoroughly-confident release”.
A distorted perception of one’s relationship with a substance, the band’s release “There She Was” is a psychedelic/alternative track with swirling instrumentation, a hypnotic groove & lyrics about being tempted to fall back into old habits. The song was written after a late-night jam, with us attempting to try to create a song different from our usual style of indie pop.
Keyboard/synth player Evan Murphy took the reins and wrote the lyrics & melody. The song took shape during its recording at Factory Underground Studio in Norwalk, CT with Producer Kenny Cash, adding various synthesizers and working on the overall structure of the track. “There She Was” also features a very different instrument from our usual lineup, a sax played by Matt Oriente.
