South London-born singer-songwriter Kashmarie’s single “Monday to Thursday” is a taster of what’s to come. Her music is designed to bring healing and therapy whilst creating a soulful sound with a touch of darkness. We had the pleasure to discuss her project and career aspirations.
Thank you for agreeing to catch up with Occhi Magazine. Firstly, for readers who are unfamiliar with you and your work, what drew you to the music industry?
I grew up in South London and it all started in the 90s when my love for R&B begin. My eyes and my ears light up to the sounds of SWV, Aaliyah, Lauryn Hill, and Enteral. Having been exposed my voice flourished, when my primary school friends and I were playing pretend R&B girl group. And I guess that’s where my passion for music began and that drew me to the music industry. But of course, as I grew older into my late teenage years I went on to study music, as I needed the knowledge to take me to the next step in my career.
You can hear several influences on your musical style, but which artist has been most influential on your career to date, and why?
Amy Winehouse played the biggest role in my musical journey. It was her raw talent and her pain that drew me closer to her music. Having experienced heartbreak and rejection in the past I felt a bound in what she was projecting.
Please share your methodology and process in crafting your music and sound?
In the past, I relied on people who promised a lot of possible things, but in the end, I was left with unfinished material. Now I have a home studio where I have the power to produce and record music. But as I am still learning and don’t feel confident enough to produce, mix and master a whole tack myself, I will therefore take it to a reliable producer to co-produce my tracks. Ideally, I would want to create a sound that is dark and cinematic sounds. However, I haven’t found the right producer that can bring that to life just yet.
You’ve just released “Monday to Thursday”. Can you tell us more about the track and its production?
“Monday to Thursday” is produced by JayJayMusika, a producer from east London. I wrote the lyrics myself, and it is based on heartbreak, love, and toxic behaviors. It started as a 5-track project, but I decided to do a single release instead. This track was produced, written, and recorded at the beginning of 2020 just before the pandemic. During that time, we had Summer Walker, Ari Lennox, Mahalia, and Ella Mai breaking into this new wave of R&B. I thought to myself let me stick to doing the music of my childhood because clearly, these women are killing it right now.
The artwork for “Monday to Thursday” is designed by an artist name Eduard Garcia Illustrator born in Barcelona and based in London. He based the artwork on what I was projected in the lyrics.

Are there any particular artists or producers you’d like to work with, and why?
I would love to work with Ludwig Goransson a film composer who has worked on the recent Adele album. He also did the soundtrack to Black Panther, Creed, and The Mandalorian. He is extremely talented in creating cinematic sounds together with R&B/Pop. This is something that I want to create in my next project.
The second person would have to 40 OVO (Noah Shebib) known to be Drake’s friend/producer. I am drawn to his intelligence in sound design and his passion for creating sound.
What other projects are in the pipeline?
My second single “Disrespectful” will be released in June 2022
