‘Spider Silk’, the debut single from London-based artist Sky_A, is taken from his upcoming debut album due later this year. Sky_A, the project name for writer and producer Sky Ainsbury, mixes elements of electronic, rock, and acoustic music to paint futuristic yet intimate landscapes of sound. Sky believes that he has a form of Synaesthesia and hears music in terms of the shapes of the figures, the colors of the melody, and its textures as material. His single Spider Silk was self-performed and produced, with the addition of virtuoso drums by Adam Betts (Three Trapped Tigers, Squarepusher, Jarvis Cocker) and additional production and mixing by Aneek Thapar (65daysofstatic, Rival Consoles, Mazoulew). The track explores the concept of strength in vulnerability.
Discussing the inspiration behind the song Sky_A says: “Someone told me the riffs and parts I write are quite spidery – moving up and down at the same time like a thing with many legs. I leaned into that with this track, the softness of the acoustic guitar, and all these fast repeating notes, spreading this gossamer. They say spider silk is stronger than steel because of its ductility – it can give and take. The song is about learning to trust and be vulnerable in love and the power that comes from that.”
