It’s 1976 Alabama. The plot sees Abigail and her mom move to a new town for a fresh start. A precocious teen, Abigail befriends the lonely boy next door and soon stands up to his bullies. As she takes him under her wing, the secrets of her past begin to surface. Though they take on the world together, he discovers she may have a more disturbing side.
As far as this genre goes, the film starts promisingly with an interesting pre-credit sequence setting the tone for what’s to come.
Unfortunately, it seems to lose its way soon after, with a weak and laughable plot. Its potential is somewhat lost. Under Melissa Vitello’s capable direction, the cinematography and tense score are very much the qualities of the film. Abigail, the disturbed teenager, is convincingly played by Ava Cantrell, who leads an equally capable cast that does its best to carry this movie to its conclusion.
With an offering of graphic scenes and spilling of blood, this is one for your truly die-hard horror thriller fans or those with 90 minutes to spare. Abigail is available on digital and DVD from December 5th. Share your thoughts!
