New Orleans-based vocalist Anna Laura Quinn and guitarist Ed Barrett invite listeners into the heartfelt and intimate world of their duo project, Quinn & Barrett. Since joining forces in 2018, the pair has cultivated a deeply personal musical connection, one that blossomed even further during the quiet, reflective months of the COVID quarantine. It was during this time of stillness that they became each other’s musical anchors, curating the “Anna and Ed Mixtape”—a collection of songs from across genres that brought them shared joy and meaning.
Their forthcoming album, Just… Quinn & Barrett, marks the first volume of their shared songbook, featuring eleven beloved tracks chosen and meticulously arranged during recording sessions held between May 2023 and May 2024. With acclaimed New Orleans guitarist and educator Brian Seeger serving as producer and engineer, the album bridges the duo’s diverse musical influences, blending styles and moods into a cohesive, emotionally rich narrative.
Drawing inspiration from an eclectic range of artists—including Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, Patsy Cline, Nancy Wilson, J.S. Bach, Dr. John, Bill Frisell, Tears for Fears, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Duke Ellington, and Queen—Quinn & Barrett craft a sound that is both timeless and uniquely their own. The duo’s arrangements explore the dynamic possibilities of voice and guitar, shifting effortlessly from the vibrant energy of big band jazz to the hushed, intricate interplay of two instruments in quiet conversation.
With Just… Quinn & Barrett, the duo, offer a deeply versatile listening experience, one that invites audiences to revel in the fireworks of bold, expressive moments while also leaning in to appreciate the subtle nuances of their musical dialogue. It’s a celebration of connection, creativity, and the enduring power of song. The album drops this June 6th.
