Occhi Magazine: Showcasing Independent Artists, Creative Projects & Inspiring Stories in Visual Arts, Music, Film, and Literature
Rock country’s rising star, Joe Hermes, is back—fuelled by grit, heart, and pure adrenaline—with his latest single, “A Honky Tonk Feelin’,” released August 22nd. This high-octane, backwoods anthem is built for those unforgettable nights where the line between work and play blurs, and the only thing that matters is the music blasting from the jukebox.
.
“A Honky Tonk Feelin’” is a barroom-bred, blue-collar country rock anthem designed to shake up tailgates, dive bars, and pickup trucks alike. Hermes’ signature gritty vocals ride atop driving guitar riffs and punchy, hard-hitting rhythms, creating the kind of sound that gets even the most stubborn barflies on their feet—singing along and ignoring last call.
.
Describing the inspiration behind the track, Hermes shares, “‘A Honky Tonk Feelin’’ captures those times when an average after-work night turns rowdy at your local, low-key watering hole. I’d just get that first drink down, feeling good, and here comes my buddies walking through the front door. Suddenly the jukebox fires up, playing all the classics, and now everybody’s getting a ‘Honky Tonk Feelin’’—that work is definitely going to suck tomorrow and the bar is gonna win once again!”
.
But there’s more to Joe Hermes than just rowdy anthems. A proud Illinois native and former defensive lineman, Hermes is a bona fide entertainer whose music is powered by faith, family, and a steadfast belief in the American Dream. His “gunpowder country” sound—raw, honest, and high-energy—draws from his earliest influences, including Metallica, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aerosmith, Pantera, and Bon Jovi. This blend of soulful vocals, edgy storytelling, and his unmistakable “Heart of Illinois” roots creates a captivating musical experience that’s both intimate and boldly straight-up.
.
Joe’s journey as an artist took a major leap forward with the support of acclaimed producer Buddy Hyatt (TOTO, George Jones, Lee Greenwood, Mickey Gilley, Tracy Lawrence). Together, they crafted Hermes’ debut EP, SOULS WITH STONES, in 2020—an introduction that cemented his place as one of country rock’s most promising new voices.
As Joe Hermes continues to carve his own path with authenticity and fire, “A Honky Tonk Feelin’” stands as proof that the spirit of country rock is alive, loud, and ready to raise the roof.
