Rorey -Occhi Magazine: Showcasing Independent Artists, Creative Projects & Inspiring Stories in Visual Arts, Music, Film, and Literature
New York–based singer-songwriter ROREY returns with her sophomore EP, Dysphoria—a bold, immersive exploration of mental illness and emotional healing. Co-written and produced with longtime collaborator Scott Effman, the project weaves haunting melodies and ethereal vocals through hypnotic, swirling instrumentals, capturing both the chaos and beauty of navigating inner turmoil.
ROREY’s music stands out for its honesty, giving voice to the unspoken truths of struggle while offering comfort and connection. Her latest single, “Hurts Me To Hate You,” is a moving meditation on acceptance and forgiveness, inspired by her own journey with her mother. Accompanied by a deeply personal music video featuring ROREY and her mom, the track marks a turning point—embracing radical acceptance and letting go of anger to make room for healing.
ROREY shares, “I wrote ‘Hurts Me To Hate You’ at 21, when I realized the anger I held toward my mother wasn’t protecting me—it was only keeping me stuck in a cycle of pain. Even though she may never fully understand me, I still wanted her in my life. Accepting her for who she is was a profound turning point for me. At the end of the day, I am responsible for my emotions—not my mother. You can’t control other people. It has taken me years to get there.”
With Dysphoria and “Hurts Me To Hate You,” ROREY transforms raw confession into art that unsettles, heals, and ultimately reminds us we’re not alone.
