Active Child - Occhi Magazine
After a five-year silence, acclaimed singer-songwriter, instrumentalist, and producer Patrick Grossi—known to the world as Active Child—emerged from creative hibernation last year.  If you haven’t already, check out  his new single, “Coming Up.” Co-produced with Alex Goose (noted for work with Kali Uchis, Childish Gambino, and Vince Staples), the track marks a profound sonic evolution for Active Child. Where past releases revelled in experimental textures, “Coming Up” finds Grossi embracing a more introspective, song-driven approach, weaving shimmering guitar lines with his signature falsetto to create a soundscape that is at once intimate and transcendent.
.
This creative renaissance began with a personal rediscovery. Grossi’s D’Angelico acoustic guitar—a cherished family heirloom once played by his great-grandfather—became the catalyst for his return. Picking up the instrument after years apart, Grossi was struck by a wave of nostalgia and a powerful urge to craft music that feels timeless, rooted in love, and shaped by honest reflection.
.
“The descending guitar structure naturally shaped the lyrics and theme toward self-reflection,” Grossi shares. “‘Coming Up’ is about sorting out who I am—my identity as an adult, a father, and a husband—and trying to reconcile that with what can sometimes feel like a self-absorbed journey as an artist. In many ways, it encapsulates where I am now in my life and sets the tone for what’s coming next for me musically: a search for balance between my creative path and my role as a parent and partner.”
.
With “Coming Up,” Active Child signals a new chapter—one defined by vulnerability, growth, and a renewed devotion to honest storytelling. It’s a return well worth the wait, and a compelling glimpse of the luminous path ahead.
