The Málaga-Based Festival Invites Filmmakers to Submit Films Made with Artificial Intelligence. Until December 1st, 2026, filmmakers may submit their films for AI Filmfest at aifilmfest.net. The first part of the festival will take place on the Internet, starting on March 1st, 2027. All selected films will be screened online; film fans from around the world will decide the awards by online voting. The second part of the festival will happen in Málaga, Spain, from April 16 to 18, 2027. With its warm climate, sunny beaches, and vibrant cultural scene. Málaga is well suited for a gathering of like-minded filmmakers and film enthusiasts.

“Artifical Intelligence is revolutionising the film industry”, says Aaron Koenig, AI Filmfest’s director. “Before AI, you needed a large team and a lot of money to make a film. Today, any individual can create films with breathtaking visuals for a tiny budget. However, you still need good ideas and the ability to tell a compelling story – that’s something AI cannot replace.”

AI FilmFest acts as a quality filter: the programme committee pre-selects the films for the festival, but it is the worldwide audience that decides about the winners. They may also send Bitcoins (or fractions of a Bitcoin) to the films they love. Therefore, the audience not only decides who wins, but also determines the size of the prize pool and, ultimately, how much the winning filmmakers receive. The more people vote and tip, the higher the prize money.

“We are combining AI and Bitcoin, the most disruptive technologies of our time”, claims Aaron, who has been active in the Bitcoin movement since 2011. Aaron has created many films for Bitcoin clients with his production company Bitfilm.com.
He also organised the Bitfilm festival for digital film from 2000 to 2017.

“At the Bitfilm Festival we already tried out many things that make AI Filmfest special”, explains Aaron. “We showed all films online since 2000, introduced online audience voting in 2006, and even tried out a Bitcoin voting system in 2014, when Bitcoin was not as widespread as it is today.”
