We adored the neck corset Lovina Yavari wore in her photo shoot, and we had to interview the creative behind that amazing design. Meet Olga of Decadent Designs.

Let’s begin by introducing Decadent Designs to our readers. Please tell us about the company.
Decadent Designs is a Toronto based clothing brand, specializing in limited edition, made to measure, and hand-sewn clothing for women. All garments are designed and hand-sewn by the designer herself.
How did your career in design begin?
It began many years ago, when I was a young woman in search of unique clothing, to build my wardrobe and unable to find what I needed in stores. I took it upon myself to learn how to sew and construct garments from scratch. Since all the women in my family are good seamstresses, I had plenty of help.
I was seen wearing my creations when out and about, people began to ask me where I bought my clothes and that is when I realized that the hobby of
making clothes could become a business and a lifestyle. I started designing and creating custom pieces for my clients, and later developed a clothing line, which I named Decadent Designs.
Why did you name your company “Decadent Designs?” Is it because of the Goth theme?
I think I just liked the word Decadent, it seemed to fit with the style of clothing I was making. When I hear the word decadent being used to describe wardrobe, it conjures up the fashions of centuries past, the lifestyle people led. There is a certain boldness that goes with my designs, that appeals to someone who is not afraid to stand out and command attention to themselves.
Where inspires your designs?
My work is inspired by the fashions of past, especially the Victorian era. I find it fascinating, the elegance and the beauty of the clothes people used to wear. I try to bring the romance of those days to my designs, while keeping the garments wearable and relevant to our current lifestyle.
We love your style. How did you come up with it?
I believe that being in the Goth scene definitely influenced my style choices. I remember the first time I ventured out to a Goth night at a local bar, when I was living in South Africa. The first thing I noticed was a beautiful girl dressed in a black lace Victorian gown, she was dancing and it all felt so surreal at the time, like a memory from another life, at that moment I felt I was home.
Why did you choose to make neck corsets?
I found the neck corsets to be a very unusual and rare to find item. It is an accessory that adds extra drama to one’s outfit. I decided that they would make a great addition to the Decadent Designs collection.
Have you seen in increase in neck corsets after “50 Shades of Grey” released? Do you expect another increase, when the sequel releases in March?

I am sorry, I have not been paying much attention to the 50 Shades of Grey movies, but I sure hope the new release brings more awareness for the neck corset in general.
Do you have any current projects you can share with our readers?
I am working on a new collection at the moment, which will be released mid-February. It includes more PVC/fetish club wear and some elegant velvet pieces.
Any plans to expand your fashion line? If yes, how?
Yes, definitely. My next project is a small collection of costumes for women, based on female movie characters, but I am unable to say much more as it is still in conceptual stages.

Well, Decadent Designs should be part of their wardrobe because wearing a Decadent piece will make them feel like they have stepped into a fantasy for the evening. They can be anyone they chose and leave their reality behind for a few hours. And who does not enjoy that?
